A fantastic attempt from the reigning time trial World Champion Ellen van Dijk! She started a just a little bit faster than Joscelin Lowden, but after a few kilometers she increased her speed and rode lap after lap with a speed of over 50 km/h! At 10 km her average speed was already above 49 km/h, and at 25 km she was going for 49.4 km for the hour. But she could not hold that pace and the average speed decreased slowly. But even her slowest laps were always above 47 km/h, so it was clear that she would brake Lowden's record. Finally she reached 49.254 km.
So at this point the women are more than one km/h faster then the records from the nineties, while the men are more than one km/h slower...
